My dad has horrible taste in beer. Well not horrible. He likes to try craft beer, but he doesn’t have much of a discerning palette for any of them. He likes a lot of the pseudo-craft brews that are honestly either just meh or really shitty (shipyard, magic hat, harpoon, etc.) and when he doesn’t buy those (presumably because they’re not on sale), he gets either heineken or labatt’s...
This wouldn’t be a huge issue if I hadn’t moved back home now that I’ve graduated college and trying to save up to move out for good... But he always likes the beer I get (as he should because I have some taste) and I have no problem sharing it with him. I just don’t like how quickly the good beer runs out and I’m left with that awful grapefruit Harpoon and Shipyard black IPA in the fridge and I feel like I shouldn’t buy more beer with a good amount still in the fridge. Please oppo help me!

Green Flash makes a darn good black IPA. Or maybe have him try a Pike Place Monk’s Uncle or a Fremont Interurban IPA.

I’ve had the first two and like them and I’m sure he would too. My problem is that he also likes beer that I don’t touch unless it’s dollar drafts at the bar.
Slightly off topic, I was out in stowe with my girlfriend one night and lucky for me she was driving. I had five of the Green Flash triple IPAs with dinner (and just hanging out at the bar) casually and then got up to leave and realized I was hammered. Great beer, but two will probably suffice next time.

You’re in your twenties and you’re living at home (I assume rent free?). Cut your dad some slack and let him drink your beer.

I have no problem letting him drink my (our) beer, I just want to teach him what good beer is for his own sake and to get him to stop wasting money on beer that isn’t that good and only marginally cheaper than much better beer. It’s not even a matter of styles because I like a good beer in pretty much any style and I’ve taken him to a few breweries and he’s liked a lot of the ones I’ve showed him

And yes rent free for now, but I’ll be doing a lot of the mild renovations around the house as we prepare to sell the house within the next two years. For part of that time I’ll be living and paying just a little rent for the apartment on the other side and doing work there too. But I’m extremely grateful to have a place to stay for now

I like the regular harpoon IPA and sometimes a UFO! What I don’t like is their “Big Squeeze”, that shit is gross. And some of their other seasonals have been a big swing and a miss

I haven’t had the opportunity to try that one. They made a ginger wheat a few years ago that was AMAZING! I’ve been chasing ginger beer since and nothing has come close to it.

To be fair I would only put shipyard in the meh category and I actually really like monkey fist. I don’t think their black IPA is good and I really don’t have enough a sweet-tooth for any of the “_______-head” beers

I like a lot of IPAs yes, but I also like a good stout or a lager. I guess I prefer my fruit in salad and not in my beer, but even then I will have one of the less sweet shandys (porch rocker or the naragansett del’s)
